Technology
Software, platforms, and digital infrastructure that solve real problems for African markets. We back operators building durable products, not chasing trends.
Review Thesis →Independent by tradition.
We hold and grow a portfolio of operating businesses, supported by long-term capital and a philosophy of operational independence.
Our subsidiaries and strategic investments are run by their own leadership teams, guided by their own strategies, and held to their own standards of excellence. Vonga's role is to allocate capital patiently, support strong operators, and connect the businesses within our portfolio where there is genuine value in doing so.
We are recently formed but not new to the work. The companies under our portfolio represent investments and partnerships built over several years, now consolidated under a single structure that reflects how we intend to build for the long term.
We hold what we own. We do not operate on artificial fund lifecycles or short-term exit mandates.
Our operators make their own decisions, supported by our governance resources and cross-group synergy.
Vonga takes its name from Siavonga — the town on the northern shore of Lake Kariba where the Tonga people rebuilt their community after the rising waters of the Zambezi displaced them in 1958.
The Tonga are among the oldest Bantu settlers in the region. Historically, they governed without chiefs, organising themselves around independent extended family groups and a deep respect for autonomy. The values woven through their language and traditions — independence, gratitude, and patience — shape how we operate.
We back independent businesses. We run them with autonomy. We build partnerships rooted in mutual benefit rather than extraction.
"Independent by tradition."
Vonga Capital invests across five sectors, each chosen for its long-term sovereign relevance to Zambia and the broader Southern African trade corridor.
Software, platforms, and digital infrastructure that solve real problems for African markets. We back operators building durable products, not chasing trends.
Review Thesis →Trade and investment in the natural resources that underpin Zambia's economy and the wider region. We pursue opportunities where Vonga can add structural value.
Review Thesis →The systems and infrastructure that move goods, capital, and information across borders. We are interested in the unglamorous work of making African trade flow.
Review Thesis →Equity capital and financial services that help local businesses scale. This is the discipline at the heart of Vonga itself, and the lens through which we evaluate sectors.
Review Thesis →Premium, structural properties, and tech-enabled physical infrastructure (PropTech) that combine physical land holdings with digital lease and utility management platforms.
Review Thesis →Our portfolio today is concentrated in technology and financial services, with planned expansion into commodities, logistics, and real estate as the right opportunities emerge. We are patient. We hold what we own.
Operating subsidiaries are companies in which Vonga holds a controlling or co-controlling stake. Strategic investments are minority positions in businesses where Vonga participates as a partner alongside other shareholders.
Across these five positions, a common thesis runs. Each business addresses a category where Zambian and regional markets are professionalising, where local execution has historically been thin, and where the value created tends to compound rather than depreciate. Vonga's role is to supply the patient capital and structural support that lets these companies build for that longer arc.
Vonga is led by two co-CEOs operating with a clear functional split. This structure reflects how the business actually runs: investment decisions and operating discipline are different muscles, and we believe they are best held by leaders accountable for each.
